Dementia Friendly Art Workshop to Design Seascapes for Barnes Hospital
Hospital Rooms is continuing its collaboration with South West London and St George’s Trust for a new project at Barnes Hospital. We will work with people using dementia services at the hospital, staff and members of the community to design seascapes for large scale exterior boards around the site.
We will be leading a dementia friendly art workshop on Tuesday 15th August where participants will create paintings of seascapes taking inspiration from renowned artists and their own imaginations. These scenes will then be painted onto large outdoor boards to give the hospital a vibrant and welcoming presence. We are looking forward to sharing and celebrating the talents of older people in Barnes.
This project is generously supported by Colart, who are providing high quality art materials through their brands Liquitex, Reeves and Winsor & Newton, and whose staff will be volunteering with both the workshop and outdoor painting.

South West London and St George’s Trust: South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) is the leading provider of mental health services across south west London and a beacon of excellence for many of our national mental health services. The Trust serves 1.1 million people across the London boroughs of Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth. The Trust employs more than 2,000 staff who provide care and treatment to over 20,000 people from South West London and beyond at any given moment.
Hospital Rooms and SWLSTG have collaborated on major projects integrating arts and culture into the health environment. We transformedthe Phoenix Unit, a secure psychiatric rehabilitation unit for people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, with museum quality artwork by Nick Knight, Assemble and Gavin Turk among others, and created a large scale outdoor mural for their Recovery College by Tim A Shaw.
