Sandwell CAMHS Celebration Weekend
13th — 14th July 2024
Join us for a Celebration Weekend on Saturday 13 July, and Sunday 14 July, as we mark the completion of a remarkable project with the Sandwell Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) unit. This special event invites the public to explore stunning artworks created in collaboration with world-class artists and young people, and to participate in a variety of creative activities.
About the Project
Hospital Rooms has teamed up with renowned artists Rana Begum, Miranda Forrester, and Christian Marclay, alongside local talents Roo Dhissou and Marley Starskey Butler, and the young people of Sandwell CAMHS, to transform the Lodge Road site. This year-long project included workshops with young people and staff, conducted in schools and local cultural organisations, to develop a shared vision for the space.
The result is 12 new site-specific artworks that reimagine how children and young people experience mental health care, continuing our mission to infuse all mental health spaces with art and creativity.
The weekend will feature a variety of free activities to celebrate:
– Curator Tours: Guided tours offering insights into the artworks and the creative process behind them.
– Documentary Screening: A film detailing the project’s journey and its impact.
– Art Displays: Special exhibitions showcasing the works of participants and artists.
– Pop-up Workshops: Interactive sessions where visitors can engage in creative activities.
Event Schedule
– Saturday 13 July: Open to the public, offering a unique chance to experience and engage with the installed artwork and the mission of Hospital Rooms.
– Sunday 14 July: Reserved for CAMHS service-users and their families, providing a more intimate space to enjoy and celebrate.
