Peter Adjaye, Outside the Frame, 2026
Outside the Frame is a new series of soundscapes created by sound artist Peter Adjaye in collaboration with workshop facilitator and vocalist Randolph Matthews for Hospital Rooms. The works emerged from a series of participatory vocal and call-and-response choral workshops held within natural environments.
Rooted in listening, breath, vibration, and collective vocal expression, the workshops explored the therapeutic and restorative potential of sound, utilising the body as a primary source of rhythm, resonance, and voice alongside the use of imagination as a creative tool for sonic exploration. Developed through alternative tuning approaches associated with non-Western tonal traditions and 432Hz resonance, the soundscapes were conceived as immersive sonic environments that support reflection, emotional release, and wellbeing through resonance and deep listening.
Combining voice, environmental field recordings, strings, and bass, the works capture not only voices, but atmosphere, emotion, and the transient energy of collective experience — preserving moments of trust, healing, connection, and shared presence through sound.
