How to Create Art Inspired by Nature Tutorial with Ben Sanderson
Description:
Join us for a multi-sensory workshop led by Cornwall-based artist Ben Sanderson. Follow your nose outdoors and inhale deeply – what can you smell? Gather some small cuttings; lavender, rosemary, buddleia, bay, wisteria, rhododendron, three-cornered leek, jasmine, a blade of grass… anything you can find! In this workshop we are going to interpret these scents and sensations by creating a multi-media artwork.
Materials used:
• Plant clippings (or anything you like the smell of!)
• A4 Watercolour Paper Charcoal
• Wax Crayons
• Indian Ink
• Variety of paintbrushes
• A cup of water
• Optional: Masking fluid
Ben Sanderson
Ben Sanderson holds a BFA from Falmouth University, and in 2017 took part in Syllabus III, a roaming study programme partnered with Wysing Arts Centre, Studio Voltaire, Eastside Projects, Iniva, New Contemporaries, S1 Artspace, and SpikeIsland. In February 2019–February 2021 Ben has a residency at Trebah Gardens on the HelfordRiver. During his time at Trebah, he organised a series of garden walks with specialists (an ethnobotanical researcher, gardeners, a psychiatrist, a herbalist, artists, poets, and friends) and they discussed in depth the space between people and plants. These conversations went on to inform his work in the studio and have left him still questioning what happens at the garden’s edge
