Cornwall Hospitals

Bodmin Community Hospital and Camborne Redruth Community Hospital

Hospital Rooms has partnered with Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to create artworks for six inpatient mental health wards across Bodmin Community Hospital and Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, collaborating with artists and service-users to co-produce artwork and creative programmes.

Together, we’re going to transform these hospitals with artworks made especially for these spaces. This project will mark the beginning of a longer-term strategy to put culture and creativity at the heart of mental health care in Cornwall.

“Art is so important – it helps our wellbeing in many different ways and I am delighted that we are part of this exciting project with Hospital Rooms. As well as creating art for some of our inpatient wards, I hope it will create a lasting legacy which will benefit people for years to come.”

- Debbie Richards, Chief Executive, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Inpatient Ward Workshops

Workshops at Bodmin and Camborne Redruth Community Hospitals are currently ongoing across six inpatient mental health wards including four acute psychiatric wards, a forensic unit, and a psychiatric intensive care unit. All participants have the opportunity to take part in a creative activity and to contribute to the artworks that will be made for these hospitals.

Workshops with Tate St Ives

Anna Barriball, Abigail Reynolds, Ro Robertson, and Ben Sanderson each spent a day in St Ives running two workshops at either Tate St Ives or the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

The morning sessions were aimed at people from the community with lived experience of mental health services, and the afternoon sessions were for staff and services users from Bodmin and Camborne Redruth Community Hospitals.

Workshops with intoBodmin

Alvin Kofi, Sovay Berriman, and Melanie Stidolph have each spent a morning running a workshop at the Shire Hall in Bodmin, in partnership with intoBodmin. These sessions were open to people from the community with lived experience of inpatient mental health services, as well as staff and services users from Bodmin and Camborne Redruth Community Hospitals.

These workshops, along with those at Tate St Ives, provide an opportunity for staff and service users to spend time making art in a creative setting and to develop connections with local cultural venues.

“The work of Hospital Rooms is inspiring and humbling, it reminds us that creativity is a human right. Tate St Ives are excited to support this project and to build new partnerships with mental health settings in Cornwall. Art and creativity are powerful tools in creating hope and providing solace, particularly in difficult times, and we’re pleased to be able to contribute to this important work with people in Cornwall.”
