Hospital Rooms is an arts organisation who are going to be collaborating with artists and young people over the next year to make Sandwell CAMHS a more beautiful and creative place.

Together, we’re going to transform the CAMHS building with artworks made especially for these spaces.

Project Artists

Between June and October we are running a series of workshops at CAMHS with four artists. At the end of the workshop series we will make permanent artworks for the CAMHS building in consultation and collaboration with everyone who joins these workshops. Find out more about the artists below and sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear about the sessions.

Poppy Nash

Poppy Nash is an artist who creates artworks that are both decorative and useful in the form of clothing, curtains, duvet covers and banners. Poppy uses words and the power of material to communicate messages using it as a way to bring people together.

Poppy’s workshops for CAMHS are all about the clothes we wear and what they say about us. In her sessions We will draw, cut up and transform pre-loved clothes, explore how they are made, and make something new from them.

Sarah Taylor Silverwood is an artist and illustrator who makes sculptures, animations, comic books, public art and lots of other things. Most things she makes are related to drawing and collaborating with other people.

In Sarah’s first workshop she led the group in making flipbooks - small books with a picture that changes a tiny bit on each page. When you flip it with your fingers, it looks like a moving animation! Sarah will lead four more sessions on drawing and animation.

Marley Starskey Butler makes art out of lots of bits and pieces. Sometimes photography, sometimes music, sometimes spoken and written words, and sometimes something they’ve never done before.

Marley will lead workshops focused on story telling through different mediums such as photography, music and the spoken and written word.

Roo Dhissou -

CAMHS Art Collective

Roo Dhissou will be leading five workshops at Sandwell CAMHS. Through the workshop series, Roo and the group will develop an idea for how to permanently transform the CAMHS waiting area.

CAMHS Art Collective is a group for 14-18 year olds who have accessed mental health services. You could be a current CAMHS user, a former service user, or receiving support from your school, college or other community service.

Roo Dhissou is an artist who works with communities, diasporas and her own histories. Roo makes art with people, craft, cooking, performance and art installation. She explores how our identities are formed as individuals and in communities.

As well as the five core workshops, the group will have more opportunities to take part in activities over the Summer and into the Autumn.
