Miniature Megaliths with Anna Chrystal Stephens
Description:
Get ready to dive into the world of stones in this workshop led by Anna Chrystal Stephens! Explore the intricacies of these natural objects as we observe, enjoy, and speculate about their significance in our relationship with the landscape. Learn to make detailed drawings of stones and enhance their colours with water techniques. Then, get hands-on and use stones and fabrics to create sculptural pictures, celebrating our connection with landscapes and reflecting on our past and present relationship with the environment.
Materials used:
- 5 to 10 stones (small stones found outside of any kind, between marble and golf ball size)
- A4 coloured paper (ideally pale or pastel colours)
- Colouring pens, pencils, and/or crayons of any kind
- A bowl of water – big enough to hold the stones you have
- Bits of fabric (colourful scraps or small household items e.g., socks, t-shirts, dishcloths)
- A camera/phone to take a picture (not essential)

Anna Chrystal Stephens
Anna Chrystal Stephens uses sculpture, action and photography to explore sustainable living strategies, survival and the transition between nomadic and settled modes of existence. She uses natural materials, recycled materials, defunct camping paraphernalia and survival gear to make sculptures and objects with real or imagined purposes, making links between ancient techniques and contemporary tools. These objects are a celebration of attempts to connect with the land and a reaction to anxiety about climate breakdown.
