Join multidisciplinary artist and musician Lonnie Holley as he explores the creative possibilities of the Digital Art School box, sharing his improvisational approach to making. In this workshop, you’ll learn to let go, experiment with materials, and create artworks that tell a story.
Working with acrylic paint and coloured pencil, Lonnie encourages you to follow your instincts and embrace play in your process. Throughout the session, you’ll also gain insight into Lonnie’s remarkable life experiences and his unique and curious way of seeing the world.

Lonnie Holly
Lonnie Holley (born 1950; Birmingham, Alabama)
Since 1979, Holley has devoted his life to the practice of improvisational creativity. His art and music, born out of struggle, hardship, but perhaps more importantly, out of furious curiosity and biological necessity, has manifested itself in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance, music, and filmmaking. Holley’s sculptures are constructed from found materials in the oldest tradition of African American sculpture. Objects, already imbued with cultural and artistic metaphor, are combined into narrative sculptures that commemorate places, people, and events. His work is now in collections of major museums throughout the world.
